MyMedicare – Strengthening Your Connection with Your GP
Better health starts with regular, consistent care. That’s why the Australian Government has introduced MyMedicare — a voluntary and free registration model that formalises your relationship with your general practice, preferred GP, and primary care team.
Who Can Register?
MyMedicare is available to anyone who holds a Medicare card or a Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Veteran Card.
Benefits of MyMedicare Registration
- A formal, ongoing relationship with your regular GP and care team
- Access to longer MBS-funded phone consultations with your usual GP (from 1 November 2023)
- Better coordinated care for people with chronic conditions who frequently visit the hospital (from mid-2024)
- More regular visits and improved care planning for aged care residents (from August 2024).
How to Register?
Start your registration via:
- Medicare Online Account, or
- Express Plus Medicare mobile app
Once initiated, your practice staff will complete your registration in the MyMedicare system.
Need to Change Your GP?
You are not locked in — you can:
- Change your preferred GP within your current registered practice anytime
- Register with a new practice, provided you meet eligibility, and the practice participates in MyMedicare.
